Virginia has now mandated electronic prescribing for opioid medication in an effort to reduce the fraud and abuse associated with prescription painkillers. Starting July 1, 2020 the State of Virginia will mandate that all controlled substance prescriptions be sent electronically.
On February 21st, 2017 governor Terry Mcauliffe signed house bill 2165 into law. All prescribers and dispensers are required to consult the state PMP prior to prescribing or dispensing any controlled substance.
